Using Your Domain for Cadenza

If you have your own domain name, a website that you have had for a while, or are planning to purchase a new domain name, then you may use your domain name for your Cadenza website.

When you sign up for Cadenza, you're assigned a "subdomain" on the Cadenza.Works network, something like: mycoolmusicsite.cadenza.works. If you own the domain, mycoolmusicsite.org, then we can "map" this domain to your Cadenza subdomain, so that people who visit mycoolmusicsite.org, will see your Cadenza site instead.

In order to make this happen, we'll need your help to update your DNS (Domain Name Servers) records to redirect your domain from your registrar, to point to the Cadenza.Works network. You can either:

  1. Provide us with access to your domain registrar, so that we can make the necessary settings changes or,
  2. Update these settings changes yourself.

Either way, you are going to need to have access to your Domain Registrar account.

Domain Registrars

Your DNS records are managed by a Domain Registrar. You most likely purchased your domain through a domain registrar such as GoDaddy, Bluehost or Cloudflare. Your domain registrar retains the records of your domain registration as long as you maintain an account with them.

Registrar Account Access

If you purchased the domain yourself, then you should be able to locate the account login information. Domain names require renewals every year or every few years, depending on the duration of its last renewed (1 year, 3 years, five years, etc.). Renewal notification is sent to the account holder prior to the expiration of the renewal period. Also, ICANN reaches out to your every year to make sure that your account information is up to date.

If someone else purchased the domain name, or if the current account holder is someone else, such as another member of your organization, a member, or a supporter, then that person will need to provide you with the account login credentials in order to access the account.

If you do not know who purchased the domain, or who the current account holder is, then you will need to do a bit of research to locate this information. You can find out who the account holder on record is, by checking the official ICANN WhoIs records. The ICANN WhoIs record is the official database of all recorded domain names and contains important information such as the account holder, when the domain name was registered, the next registration expiration, and some technical and administrative contacts, as well as where the domain's DNS records currently reside.

Domain owners do have the option to make much of this information private. If this is the case with your domain, and you do not know who purchased the domain, or who the current account holder is, then it becomes a bit more difficult to track down. If this is the case, then this may mean you'll need to ask other people involved with your organization if they remember who purchased the domain.
