Adding Video

Posting video’s on your organization on your Cadenza website is a wonderful way to showcase your performing groups at their best. Video is engaging, interesting, informative, fun, entertaining, and so much more!

However, video files are also large; sometimes huge! Adding large video files to your Media Library will be slow and playback performance may not be optimal, hampering your visitors viewing experience. Plus, the maximum media file size is only 5MB, which would account for a relatively short video clip.

It is for this reason, that uploading video files to your Cadenza Media Library is highly discouraged!

Instead, we recommend utilizing the services of a video platform such as YouTube or Vimeo. Both of these services have perfected handling extremely large video files and optomizing playback performance. These services can be free to use, or of very low cost, with excellent value. Plus, you can create your own channels for your organization and link to them through your Header or Top Bar social media icons links.

Adding Video to the Media Library

As mentioned above, the maximum file upload size is 5MB. You may upload small, short video files that fall within this limit. The following common video file formats are allowed: avi, flv, mov, mp4. add this media as you would any other media, by opening the Medial Library and clicking Add New.

Adding Video in the Visual/Text Editor

If you are at all familiar with YouTube or Vimeo, you may have heard of “embed” code. Embed code is a string of code that you must copy and paste into the HTML of your page.

However, WordPress make it much easier to add video to any page or post in your Cadenza website by use of its “oEmbed”. oEmbed was designed to avoid the need to copy and paste HTML from the site hosting the video you wish to embed. It also supports not only videos, but images, text, and more.

To embed a video (or another object) into a post or page, do the following:

  1. In another window or tab, go to the Website where your video is hosted (YouTube, Vimeo or other)
  2. Copy the URL of the video (not the website, but the video URL, for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ (Select if you want the video to auto play or not, before copying the URL)
  3. Click to position your mouse in the Editor where you want your video to display
  4. From your post or page, click the Add Media button above the Editor
  5. Select the Insert from URL option
  6. Paste the URL from to the video in the text field
  7. You should immediately see your video in the Insert Media window
  8. Click the Insert into Post button

WordPress will automatically turn the URL into a video embed and provide a live preview in the Visual Editor.

Adding Video in the Page Builder

The Standard Video Module is very easy to use. Add the Video Module to your page, choose the Embed option, then paste in the URL of the video you want to insert. Because you are using the Page Builder, your video will scale to fit the column in the row where you placed the Module. Build your page around your Video or create an entire gallery of embedded clips with multiple rows and columns.

Video Backgrounds

In the Page Builder, you can also add video as a Background Video for Rows. Select Video as the background Type, choose the Source, select the file or paste in the URL of the video, and the Page Builder will do the rest. Make sure you add a content area in the foreground to be able to see your video playing in the background.
